What is it going to take to win right now in this downsizing incredibly challenging economy?
We are in a time in which our best economists often say I don't know. History tells us that two things are true in challenging times. One, this kind of uncertainty always provokes anxiety in humans. Two, certain individuals will move past the anxiety and lead companies to actually identify meaningful long term business opportunities.
The conventional wisdom is to hunker down and wait it out. Better times will come. Conventional wisdom tends to generate conventional results. The other option is to be contrarian and decide to recognize the opportunity. Extraordinary leaders are just contrarian enough to upsize learning in a downsizing economy. Upsizing learning means helping people reframe their anxiety and move into an opportunity mindset. Upsizing learning means helping people develop the mindset and skills to thrive in any economic environment.
